New Federal CIO Vivek Kundra: Lord of Nerdiness.

222319-0-0-3

Meet Vivek Kundra.  He’s been appointed the chief information officer, CIO, for the United States government.

If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry.  I’m pretty sure Vivek doesn’t either.  At first, I thought that meant he was appointed King of the Internet, or the webmaster of the world wide web.  But I was wrong.

It just means he’s going to help craft policies to ensure that the government is up to speed with technology.

For example, if the government launches a website on where to get your flu shot, they’ll probably ask Vivek to upgrade that shit to web 2.0 with xml and php’s.  Then Vivek can pump in the RSS feed so that the active server pages are optimized for SEO.

Really?  No idea what any of that meant.

All I know is that this is a new post, and Vivek Kundra will now be the super nerd for President Obama when it comes to technological issues.  I’m not sure why the Obama administration really needs this post.  It seems like another layer of government nobody really needs.  And it’s probably costly too.

Why didn’t we look into outsourcing this job to India?  We could have gotten 28 CIO’s for the same price.
