TV Commercials at Oscars Not So Attractive.

Put some clothes on, nudey.

Major sponsors have bailed out of the Oscars. General Motors, and L’Oreal, Oscar sponsors last year, have passed on the show this year.  The estimated cost of one commercial has dropped nearly 15% from last year and even the companies that are placing ads in the programme this year have gone silent.

Have people finally realized that the Oscars is a horrible waste of time like I have?

Probably not.  It’s just this economy.  If GM goes in, it’ll signal to people that they have enough money to burn on a commercial when they can’t afford to stay afloat without taxpayers money.  L’Oreal has indicated that the marketplace for cosmetics and beauty products is hurting, so making a splash in the Oscars can’t be a bright idea.

The companies who have already forked over millions to advertise in the programme probably don’t want anyone to know how much they wasted.

It’s a shitty time for marketing and advertising.  Most people will just do the TiVo delay, where you leave enough of a buffer to forward through commercials.  So that $1.4 million spot you just bought?

Totally skipped it.
